AS9100

Representing an international effort to formulate a quality management system standard for the aerospace industry, AS9100 is showing its long-term value. The standard supplements ISO 9001 by addressing the additional expectations and requirements of the aerospace industry.

The industry experts who wrote the standard and the representatives who approved it all agree that these additions are essential to ensure product, process and service safety and quality.

All quality systems must be designed to meet the specific needs of the users. AS9100 identifies areas to address which are specific to the aerospace industry. To be effective, these requirements must be incorporated into a robust quality system that's both effective and efficient. AS9100 Rev C has been released

AS9100 Rev C incorporates the changes from ISO 9001:2000 to ISO 9001:2008 (minor changes for improved understanding) plus significant changes to the aerospace-specific sections of the standard.

The International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) has established a 30-month transition timeline for existing certified organizations. That transition period ends June 30, 2012.
